A Brass Sword Stick C. 20th CENTURY.
 
Item: 148

A Brass Derby Handle with engraved name belonging to: (Col J.C.M Chandos Benedict Arden Hoskyns C.B.E. D.S.O). The Handle then separates from the Brass Collar with a Hidden Sword which retains a sharp edge and some pitting. The Outer Shaft is made from Mahogany and extends to a long Brass Ferrule.

 

Chandos Benedict Arden Hoskyns (1895-1940) who served with the Rifle Brigade on the Western Front and Salonika during WWI. Served in India and Malta in the interwar years. In WWII he was in command of a battalion during the siege of Calais ,1940 where he was mortally wounded and mentioned in dispatches. His son John Hoskyns later went on to found the Hoskyns Group as well as then leading the No 10 National Policy Advisory Unit to Margaret Thatcher.
